Introducing Sotavento Invest’s blog series

Building the Algarve’s startup ecosystem, one post at a time.

At SotaventoInvest, we see the Algarve as Portugal’s next big startup hub—but only if we bridge the gap between global knowledge and local execution. The world is full of brilliant frameworks, tools, and insights from startup ecosystems like Silicon Valley, London, or Lisbon. But here’s the catch: what works there doesn’t always work here.

That’s why we’re launching a 3-weekly blog series to curate, adapt, andco-create content that’s tailored to the Algarve’s unique context. We’ll take the best global expertise, translate it for local challenges, and collaborate with Algarve-based professionals to ensure every post is practical, actionable, and relevant to you—whether you’re a founder, investor, or ecosystem partner.

Our approach: global insights, local adaptation

We believe in standingon the shoulders of giants—but with a local twist. Here’s how:

  • Curate the best global content: We adapt proven frameworks (e.g., YCombinator, Brad Feld) for the Algarve. For example, how do you apply The Mom Test?
  • Co-write with localexperts: We partner with Algarve-based founders, investors, and mentors (e.g.,
UALG, CRIA) to add regional perspectives.
  • Honour theoriginals: Every adapted post credits the original source and explains our
    local adaptations.
  • Focus onAlgarve-specific sectors: Aligned with curricula of renown universities and
venture builders; Tourism tech, marine innovation, and agri-food amongst
others—each with unique challenges and opportunities.

What to expect

Over the next few months, we’ll cover three core themes, each designedto educate, connect, and inspire—with a local twist:

  • Founder Fundamentals: From finding the right co-founder to navigating early agreements,
we’ll help you avoid costly mistakes and build a strong foundation for your
    startup.
  • Investor Education: The Algarve’s startup ecosystem is growing, but many angels and founders are
still learning the ropes. We’ll demystify valuation, metrics and fundraising to
    help you make smarter decisions.

What can you do?

You can be part of this: we do not want to be just the talking heads, we want to faciliate others, both those with knowledge worth sharing and those with questions! So, please get in toutch!
